File:Frost high definition.jpgI woke up in the dark today at 0630 to 16 degrees Fahrenheit–minus 8.8 Celsius–temperatures, and a rather chilly bedroom.  Long story, never mind.

A few short hours later, the air temperature outside was only 35F (slightly above freezing).  But–because of the cloudless sky and bright sunshine–the temperature in my little sunroom was 80F (26.6C).  The cats really enjoyed that heat after I slid open the connecting door, and I enjoyed it too, as it poured into that same bedroom.)

Thank you, Mr. Right.

Truth be told, I thought today was the Solstice.  No, that’s tomorrow.  And I’ll be very glad, once that’s under the belt, to see longer hours of daylight.  My days of celebrating the shortest day of the year by collecting holly (OK, I actually did that today), making a wreath–HELLO–and celebrating the lights are long gone.  All that’s left is the cognitive dissonance when it comes to my actual old-age remarking of such matters from year to year, and how depressing it is to find that it’s dark again by 5:00PM.

When it comes right down to it, I don’t expect I’m all that different from those who’ve come before.

At least, I hope not.
