Plain Speaking

The Very Definition of Evil…

…is, in my own mind, a grown–even elderly–man who establishes a social media account on a popular platform, and who not only uses a pseudonym to conceal his identity (something there’s a pretty good precedent for in American history), but who then also “protects” his effusions from all those but the vanishingly few whom he’s allowed to “follow” him.

A man who then energetically swans all over the Internet, trolling both those on the right and those on the left who–in his own mind–he believes he has a grudge against and who–somehow–owe him something for imagined disfavors in the past. (Let’s be clear: None of them can see what he says, because none of those folks are his “followers.” So, totally pointless and ineffectual.  Amirite?)

A man who forgets (or whose vainglorious ego never understood) that absolutely no-one, other than his vanishingly small handful of followers can see a single word he utters, not even those he’s addressing his vituperation towards. (This would be funny if it were not so very sad.)

A man who doesn’t care that the only person whose outpourings are exposed to the world  is via her one-sided admiration for and adulation of his largely invisible and irrelevant nonsense, and that she’s the one who’ll be accountable for her comments, while he is not. Because everything she says is visible to all; whereas his precipitating remarks are invisible to all but her.  Does she realize this?  Verdict’s out at this point.

Lord.

If only those of my own sex upon whom I wish brains, discretion, and intelligence, could assume such things.

But, perhaps there are other, more primal, urges in play.

Whatever.  I hope it works out for you both.

Excelsior!

  1. To clarify–ICYMI–I think sending a girl out–under her own name–to support you in the assertions that you’re not brave enough to make in public, even under a pseudonym, is disgraceful, hypocritical, and all those other overused words….
