Newsflash for Meandering or Ambivalent Gentiles: Yammering at Inordinate Length about Israel Doesn’t Usually End Well for You

File:Star of David.svgI can take it from the Commentary podcast people, because they’re unabashed Jews.  That’s who they are.  That’s what they do. And I listen to them almost every day because–in spite of their acknowledged bias–they often have really interesting things to say.

I can take it from Dan Senor, because his podcast is incredibly even-handed and has guests, on a regular basis, who are unapologetic in their support of the Zionist state, and those who are vehemently opposed, making the very valid point that a lot of Israelis are critical of their own government.

I listen to them both, and to them all.

I am finding myself less and less interested in what others have to say, especially when they’re people who proclaim that they have no bias, but who regularly show their hand.

Most recently, my ire has focused on people like Megyn Kelly and Emily Jashinsky.  Neither of them is Jewish.  Both of them are fairly bright.  And I generally welcome what each of them has to say about current affairs.

Nevertheless, lately, both of them have gone a bit daft on the subject of US support for Israel.  I’m sad to report that it seems to have something to do with the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and the matter–on both women’s parts–to show that each of them seems to want to reveal herself uniquely qualified to talk, now that Charlie can no longer speak for himself, about exactly what Charlie thought or was feeling.

Complicating all this–in the way that’s common these days–is the matter of social media. And Candace.  And Tucker.

So we are entering a phase where people shout their “support” for Israel, and then tear down and rationalize away, any reasons why they might do something real to demonstrate that support, just because someone, somewhere, may have said, or briefly thought, something else.

I listened to several minutes of today’s Kelly podcast (I regularly listen to the whole two hours.  But not today.)  And I have to say that–had I paid for a ticket for last night’s  show in San Antonio Texas–I’d have been incredibly disappointed to listen at length to both Megyn’s and Emily’s opinions on the matter of Israel. (I’d have been expecting to pay for a discussion more focused on the United States and its citizen-voters, something on which Megyn has made her reputation.)

Sorry, ladies. Criticize Israel all you like.  Say your bit.  Do your thing.

But, understand that your increasingly unhinged rants, and lukewarm “support” will be seen in the context of the trumpet blasts from Carlson and Owens–who you’re apparently not willing to disavow.

Throw them (most deservedly) under the bus.  Say you think they’re disgusting, crazy, and over the top.  (Shouldn’t be difficult, at least in the case of Owens’ more absurd conspiracy theories).  And then start over with more rational criticisms of Netanyahu, attempting to bring your fellow conservatives onside.

After which, get back to the serious issues which affect your homeland.

I don’t think it should be all that difficult.

But you seem terrified to go there.

I think you’re blowing it.

I don’t expect I’ll be the only one (reluctantly) to “unfollow” you in the immediate future.  Maybe others, who find your ambivalence appealing, will make up difference with the New York City Mamdani voters.  I guess we’ll see.

Bless.
