Daniel Pearl, Twenty-Two Years On

Twenty-two years ago today, on February 1, 2002, American Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl was murdered, live, on what the West considers “social media.”

I won’t link to it.  Search for it if you want to. And, if you do want to, please remove yourself from comments here.

God.

Rest in peace, American hero.

  1. I never watched that clip. I had read the descriptions and learned that the clip was available, and realized at that moment that I didn’t need to see everything in order to believe it, or to know how bad it is. And I didn’t want the imagery in my head.

    1. Agree. I’ve never seen it and never wanted to see it. But the imagery is in my head anyway, one of those (relatively) few times that–whatever the farthest reaches of my imagination can conjure–the reality can only, and must, be worse. I feel the same way about the events of October 7. Probably because I know them to be true, too. Maybe the doubters really do need to see the evidence before their own eyes, but I think there are times when the preponderance and sourcing of evidence is so great and so varied that there’s really no need to see it for myself. (Regarding the doubters–quite a few of them obviously aren’t convinced by the rather considerable evidence that the US really did put men on the moon, so perhaps they are just a lost cause….)
